A seminar “Conceptual fundamentals of Education for Sustainable Development” organized as a part of the Project “Promotion and monitoring of reforms in the field of education in the Kyrgyz Republic” being implemented by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and “BIOM” EM under the auspices of the European Union will be held on February 8, 2016 at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Today the Kyrgyz Republic is actively advancing in the course of new global initiatives to develop guidelines for sustainable development till 2030. The country’s political course in the framework of the National Sustainable Development Strategies may serve as evidence for that. “Despite serious challenges and risks encountered over the past few years, Kyrgyzstan has managed to achieve some progress in achieving the MDGs, – said the Prime Minister Temir Sariyev – This applies, above all, to reduction of extreme poverty and ensuring environmental sustainability”. The Kyrgyz Republic is reckoned among 100 pilot countries for targeted strategic guidelines and transition to a Sustainable Development Strategy“.
In 2015, 8 goals of the given Declaration was replaced by 17 goals of sustainable development (SDG) covering a huge layer of problems faced by all countries of the world regardless of their level of development. Taking a commitment to achieve them, Kyrgyzstan has once again demonstrated to the world its understanding that SDGs will lead the country to a more secure, prosperous and fair future.
At the same time, it is obvious that implementation of Sustainable Development goals in the Kyrgyz Republic is impossible without provision the society with personnel and improvement of the education system through transition to competence-based educational model and inclusion of SD, energy efficiency, environmental safety issues into new standards at all levels.
The seminar “Conceptual fundamentals of Education for Sustainable Development” will be devoted to global trends and country initiatives on education for sustainable development in the Kyrgyz Republic as well as to initiatives planned for adaptation of global sustainable development goals to the national priorities of Kyrgyzstan.
The seminar will be held with the participation of L. Ten, Counsellor of the Kyrgyz Republic Minister of Economy, D. Duyshenova, national coordinator for ESD in Kyrgyzstan, E. Shukurova, Honored Worker of Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, leading experts of the Kyrgyz Republic on education and sustainable development matters, and I. Haliy, a guest of honour from the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences – Doctor of Social Sciences.
